How long have the Bayside Business Excellence Awards been running?

The Awards were launched in 2019 to recognize businesses across the Bayside area. The Awards program and Awards Gala Event are developed by the Bayside Rotary Clubs (Beaumaris, Brighton, Brighton North, Hampton, Sandringham) in partnership with the Bayside Business Network and sponsored by Bayside City Council.

Why should businesses enter the Awards?

The Awards is an opportunity for businesses to stand out from their competition with the increased recognition and reputation that being an Award recipient will bring. Being an Award Winning Business is a great promotional opportunity for your business.

What types of businesses are eligible to enter the Awards?

There are a range of eligibility criteria that must be met to enter the Awards.

Each business must:

  • Be registered, majority owned and operated within Bayside Council Municipality
  • Have been operating for a minimum of 2 years as of 30 June 2020
  • Have a registered ABN
  • Be in one of the categories (as indicated on the Nomination Application Form)
  • Complete the Application Form in full
  • Submit the Application Form prior to application closing date
  • Be financially viable
  • Employ a minimum of 3 Full Time Employees (or equivalent) people
  • Not have previously (or during the judging phase) gone into administration, receivership, liquidation or bankruptcy, or been the subject of legal proceedings or malpractice suit.
  • If elected as a finalist, the business owner/director or senior executive must be prepared to substantiate all information as submitted to the satisfaction of the judging panel appointed. (Confidentiality Agreement if appropriate).


If any of the following is applicable to your business and or its associates, the business will be automatically excluded from submitting an entry:

  • Members of the BBEA Committee’s, Sponsors, Media Partners, Judging Panel.
  • Participating Members of: Rotary Clubs of Brighton, North Brighton, Hampton, Beaumaris, Sandringham
  • Bayside Council management and/or employees
  • A government agency
  • Have entered into any form of franchise/franchisee agreement in respect of the business referred to in the nomination application or a related party or associate of the entrant.

When do nominations open? When do nominations close?

Nominations open in March 2020 and close on the 30th June 2020. Nomination applications must be received at the Bayside Business Excellence Awards office (PO Box 6001, Brighton. 3186) or emailed to:  by 5pm on 30th June 2020.

How do I make a nomination?

How many Award Categories are there?

There are 7 business Award Categories available, and businesses must nominate in one category only.

What do I do if my business seems to be applicable to more than one Award Category?

Choose the business category that best represents your core business activities.

Is there a limit to the number of nominations I can make?

Yes, businesses can only nominate in one Award Category.

Am I able to self-nominate my business?

Yes, self-nomination by a business owner/director/employed representative of the business is the only way to be nominated. 

Do all the Selection Criteria included in the Nomination Application Form need to be completed to be eligible for an Award?

No. If you have outstanding accomplishments across the other Selection Criteria, then your final score from the judges will reflect this.

Is there a word limit for the nomination?

Yes. We have set an upper word limit of 100 words for each Selection Criteria to be commented on in your application.

When is the Judging to take place?

The Judging period takes place during July 2020.

How are judges selected for the Judging Panel?

Judges are selected based on their extensive business experience and the business acumen they bring to the Judging Panel. 

How are the Nomination Applications evaluated and judged? 

There are two rounds of judging for the Awards. Nominations are scored by the judges against the Selection Criteria included in the Nomination Application Form submitted by a business applicant. Shortlisted finalists are then determined and site visits may be carried out to validate responses from the Nomination Application. Winners are then agreed at a meeting of Judges.

When are Award Finalists and Award Winners announced? 

Finalists will be announced in August. Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala Event on the 7th of October.


When is the Awards Gala Event?

The Awards Gala Event takes place on Wednesday evening 7th October 2020 and will be held at the Sandringham Yacht Club.

What should I wear to the Awards Gala Event?

The dress code is black tie.

What is included in the ticket price for the Awards Gala Event?

The ticket price includes a 3-course dinner, wine, beer and soft drinks included, as well as entertainment. Award winners will be announced throughout the evening.

How do I make a booking?

Bookings will open on the Awards website during August with a link to a Trybooking site.

Can I book a group or table at the Awards Gala?

Yes. You need to indicate on the Trybooking site the names of those to be seated together. You will be required to pay for the group or table at the time of booking to finalise the booking.

Are special dietary requirements catered for?

Yes. Please include the dietary requirements on the booking portal. You will be asked to fill in the names of those to be seated at the same table together with any dietary requirements they may have.

How do I pay for my booking?

Credit card details will need to be available and payments made at the time of booking to finalise and confirm your booking on the Trybooking portal. 

I booked a table and indicated the names of the people to be seated together but I need to make a name change. How do I do this?
